My name is Deepali Lugani. I have a JD and LLM in international law. I am certified by the IAPP in CIPP/US and CIPP/E. You can read more about my professional background here.
In 2017, I took the CIPP/US and immediately after passing the exam I discarded the comprehensive outlines that I had painstakingly prepared. I deeply regret that. In 2021, as I enrolled in a Certificate in Data Protection Law and began preparing for the CIPP/E, I decided to share my outlines with other exam takers as a free resource.
Over time, as I delved deeper into the history of privacy and data protection, I decided to expand the scope of my project. I launched Privacy Test Prep as a free resource for individuals planning to take the CIPP/E, and also as a reference guide for privacy professionals interested in understanding the history and scope of privacy laws worldwide.
The first part of my project is a deep dive into the GDPR. I use the IAPP’s Body of Knowledge (BoK) as a framework for applicants studying for the CIPP/E. However, the content within the CIPP/E section goes well beyond the materials required for the test. In summarizing each section, I review the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), various European Union agencies and bring their privacy and data protection guidance into my summaries. This is because I hope that test takers and privacy professionals may gain a broader understanding of the European data protection landscape.
Over time, I hope to add CIPP/US and CCPA/CRPA related information on Privacy Test Prep.
I believe that our privacy is our identity. It is crucial we understand our rights and obligations, and share our privacy accordingly. Knowledge of how our privacy is used is empowerment. For privacy professionals, lack of time, resources, or quality outlines should not be a barrier in getting certified. I hope that these summaries and outlines can assist individuals in learning about privacy and data protection laws and get certified.
